Mobile is the county seat of Mobile County, Alabama. It is the third most populous city in Alabama and its population was 195,111 in 2010,  Mobile Alabama is the largest municipality on the Gulf Coast between New Orleans, Louisiana, and St. Petersburg, Florida. In view of the aforementioned, Mobile continues to build a vibrant environment for business as the economy strengthens. The region is a center for sectors such as aviation/aerospace, chemicals and maritime. The success of Mobile’s existing businesses continues to attract new investment. Steel manufacturers AM/NS Calvert and SSAB dramatically increased state-of-the-art steel production to meet the demands of this country’s needs. Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley is an expanding aerospace industry hub that includes a new Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility. Austal USA and Evonik Industries spearhead the growth of our maritime and chemical sectors respectively.

Mobile is Alabama’s only saltwater port.  Located at the head of the Mobile Bay and the north-central Gulf Coast, It is the 12th-largest port in the United States.

As one of the Gulf Coast’s cultural centers, Mobile Alabama has several art museums, a symphony orchestra, a professional opera, a professional ballet company, and a large concentration of historic architecture. Hence, Mobile has the oldest organized Carnival celebrations in the United States.

The Mobile Alabama State Docks underwent the largest expansion in its history by expanding its container processing and storage facility.  At the docks, container storage increased  by over 1,000% at a cost of over $300 million; thus, positioning Mobile for rapid container processing growth.

Shipbuilding began to make a major comeback in Mobile Alabama in 1999 with the founding of Austal USA — a subsidiary of the Australian company Austal. It expanded its production facility for United States defense and commercial aluminum shipbuilding on Blakeley Island in 2005. Austal announced in October 2012, after winning a new defense contract and completing another 30,000 square feet building within their complex on the island, that it will expand from a workforce of 3,000 workers to 4,500 employees.

Atlantic Marine operated a major shipyard at the former Alabama Drydock and Shipbuilding Company site on Pinto Island. British defense conglomerate, BAE Systems acquired Atlantic Marine in May 2010 for $352 million. Doing business as BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards, the company continues to operate the site as a full-service shipyard, employing approximately 600 Mobile workers with plans to expand.

Mobile Alabama has many nonprofit organizations that raise money and perform deeds for people in need.  For instance, an organization that uses its revenues to feed the homeless or educate children is a non-profit. Hence, the organization receives revenue by soliciting donations from the community or selling items to raise money for the cause.

Nonprofits do not operate in an effort to build wealth or revenue for the benefit of the owner, directors or shareholders. The main goal of a non-profit is to generate funds and volunteer assistance to help further its chosen cause. Therefore, a non-profit organization can also act as a publicity vehicle to bring more attention to an issue in the community.

Nonprofit organizations help communities by providing volunteer work and money to complete needed projects. Because the organization is tax-exempt, it does not have to pay taxes on the money it raises.
